Memory 14: Cooking with Granny

Another headcanon memory because the series just didn't have enough cute scenes with Toboe and Granny. This one is basically a collection of times that Granny would make delicious smelling food and Toboe would either sit patiently (but excitedly) at her feet or wander around her legs, too anxious to sit. She would usually show him things as she was doing it just to get a delighted bark and would often ask him whether an ingredient looked good to add. This is a lot of interaction between the two and showing how she truly considered Toboe part of her family and how much they both loved each other. She would also let Toboe taste various things during preparation, though she would put his finished portion on a plate on the ground. Puppies cannot eat at the table, you see. It's not very nice. But she would also share with him whenever she made snacks to eat while she was knitting. It's all cute~.

What he learns?
- He has realized by now that he used to live with the old woman and that he loved her dearly.
- She made the most delicious food.

What this means in Aather?
It's a bit of a bittersweet memory for Toboe, as it's really good times with Granny but also the knowledge that she's gone and it's his fault. :( But he's really grateful to have such a nice memory of her.

Memory 13: Crows

So here's the day. I just realized I have one memory twice and since it happened waaaaaaaaaaaaay back here, I don't feel like fixing this log so I'm just going to insert a quick headcanon to even things out. :x

This headcanon is mostly Toboe talking to the crows and learning about Tsume. It's nothing special but establishes Toboe can talk easily to other animals. o/
goneastray: (trace)
Memory 12: First allusion

This is basically a headcanon memory about the first time Toboe tried using his human guise. I imagine he probably never used it around Granny so the first time he ever would've wanted it was when he was alone, after Leara fed him the sausages in Episode 2. My takeaway is that he really wanted to be with someone and she seemed nice, but he was also scared at being alone for the first time and afraid to talk as a wolf so the illusion just... happened. Toboe typically has to concentrate to use it and I figure the first time was just a matter of really wanting a way to talk to Leara.

What he learns?
- He never used his illusion trick before he was in the city so that must mean the old woman never saw it
- He really wanted to thank someone for something
- He has to concentrate to use his illusion

What this means to Aather?

Pretty much it just reinforces Toboe's wish to have his illusion ability back. :(

Memory 11: Meeting the old couple after escaping Jagara's men

Memory goes here. 5:25 until the end. Skip parts with just Kiba/Tsume and the guys at the bar.

What he learns?
- People are actually hunting them! D:
- Tsume got shot. D:
- The old man can tell they're wolves, even though the lady can't. :o
- The old couple helped them trick the hunters and fed them. :)
- The old couple is sad because everything's dying. :(
- They're going toward a castle with a person called Darcia.

What this means to Aather?
It mostly just confuses him that sometimes people can see through whatever trick he and his friends use to make people think they're human. The old couple was nice though. He's a little sad that they think they're doomed though.

Memory 10: Lunar Flowers

Memory goes here. Start at :40, skip eye-patch dude and watch until when the wolves start running down their flower path.

What he learns?
- Even Cheza gets strength from the full moon.
- "Once a year during a full moon, the flower will hear the moon and blossom." That sounds so cool!
- Even Tsume and Hige are excited.
- THE FLOWERS ARE SO BEAUTIFUL!
- They found the path to paradise! :DDDD

What this means in Aather?
ALL THE HAPPY FEELINGS ALL OF THEM!
goneastray: (*next to you)
Memory 9: Hanabito

Memory goes here. Start at 1:06, skip all non-wolf parts, and end at 5:55

What he learns?
- There is a lady just like Cheza!
- Cheza is nervous around her. Kiba too.
- All of the others like Cheza are dead. :( They were raised in a castle too. The castle with Darcia?
- The lady knows Cheza and the wolves are drawn to each other but says Cheza being with them will lead to destruction. D: He doesn't think he likes the lady... She wants to take Cheza away!
- The lady wants Cheza to stay and help her survive.
- Cheza is unsure what she wants. But... it's okay because she agreed to stay with them later. He thinks...

What this means?
Knowing there were more like Cheza and they all died mostly makes him sad. The memory makes him sad for everyone and unsure if the lady's right about Cheza and them being together being bad... He just really wants to know they find Cheza again. :(
goneastray: (*it's a new plan)
Memory 8: Leaving the city

Memory goes here. Just the parts with the wolves.

What he learns?
- This must be when they all decided to go to Paradise.
- Tsume's hurt. :(
- He wasn't sure about paradise at first either, but he really wanted to believe there was something out there.
- He wishes he knew what Kiba and Tsume are always fighting about.
- Kiba is SO COOL.
- "Pass as a human?" Does that mean he can change like Shadow? :o Is that why the lady called them boys before? Apparently, Kiba doesn't like to change but still does it.
- Tsume doesn't want to go to paradise either at first, but he changes his mind. :D Kiba knew he would.
- They can all jump really high! Oh, he wants that skill back!
- PEOPLE ARE SHOOTING AT THEM. DDD: This must be why his friends don't trust people. And those are the gun things King told him about. :(
- Tsume saved him! Tsume's great! :D
- Except for when he kicked him in the butt. :\
- It's great they're all together. :)

What this means in Aather?

Toboe is really interested in this thing Tsume said about the wolves being able to pass as humans. Is this one of his skills? It sounds really interesting! He also wants that jumping skill back because that would be really useful! It upsets him a lot that the humans back home don't like wolves and are trying to kill them, but... noobdy's like that here in Aather. He likes it much better here. That said, anybody with a weapon is going to make Toboe extremely nervous...
goneastray: (*and suddenly the world is all brand new)
Memory 7: CATS!!!

Memory
Toboe's default to cats is as follows. So this memory is just a montage of his encounters with them.

He particularly hates the sound they make. Headcanon is that they harassed him a lot when he was younger because he's shy and looks like willing prey to a cat's sometimes trickster nature. Cats are primarily shown as very smart but also very much tricksters in WR canon. So whenever he had something that they wanted, they would chase him away by yowling and puffing up. And Toboe, being Toboe, was scared to death and would run away and hide and probably be comforted by the old woman who took care of him. Then she'd try to soothe him and tell him he didn't have to be afraid of the cats because he was bigger than them. ;; His fear got worse when he was on his own because he had to fend for himself and then kept him away from most of his scrounging. :(

What he learns?
- Cats are TERRIFYING.

What this means in Aather?
Well, he's certainly going to be avoiding any Aatherite cat pets. And he's probably going to ask Sieh to not transform into his cat shape around him until he gets more comfortable. ;;
goneastray: (*it's a new plan)
Memory 6: Cher

Memory goes here until last scene with wolves. Ignore parts with just Cheza.

What he learns?

- There's a lady who's been following them. But why does she call them boys? Though he does feel like he's concentrating on something really hard...
- They're trying to protect Cheza from her. But why does she want her? Is she bad? :(
- Cheza is afraid of something happening to her friend. :(
- Everyone agrees Cheza should stay with them. Even Tsume!
- It's weird that they're suddenly around so many people but aren't worried at all. Something feels... different.
- Cheza knew about paradise all on her own. :o Maybe that's how she can help them find it.

What this means in Aather?

This memory gives puppy very mixed feelings because it shows him around a lot of humans, but it's still clear that the wolves don't trust them, especially the lady who's after Cheza. He can also tell there's a reason nobody is freaking out when they see them and that it has something to do with the lady calling them "boys." It's like he's doing something to make her think that... But what? He is very happy that they're all happy to be traveling together here. :D (Even though puppy has no sense of linearity. |D)
goneastray: (*next to you)
Memory 5: Tsume doesn't believe in Paradise

Memory goes here from 4:00 until the end.

What he learns?
- There's not many animals around back home either. :(
- What's hamburger?
- Tsume doesn't seem to believe in paradise like the rest of them
- Kiba is fine with Tsume leaving. :(
- Kiba's used to living on his own in the wild. It doesn't sound like the rest of them are at all.
- Why are they always fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiightig? :(
- He believes in Tsume though!
- But Tsume doesn't want him around. :( Tsume must be so sad and lonely.
- He stepped on something weird. :|a

What this means to Aather?

This mostly just makes him want to try super-hard to never leave anyone behind. Even the grumpiest of people need people too.
goneastray: (*hear the howl that eats the moon alive)
Memory 4: Granny's death

Memory goes here from 6:46 until end of scene. :(

What he learns?
- He had a human friend!
- I AM THE WORST WOLF FRIEND EVER! :((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

What this means in Aather?

Hoooooooooooo boy, this is going to hella depress Toboe since it shows him someone died because of something he did. Specifically because he couldn't understand what the problem was. He got too excited and a really nice person died because of it. :( And he could tell they were really close. So this pretty much tells him that he can't protect people at all and he doesn't deserve to be with great people like Tiger's Eye and bawwwwwwwwwwww. :(
goneastray: (*alive with the beating of young hearts)
Skill 1 - Talking

Wolf's Rain wolves communicate through telepathy. They don't actually speak like talking animals. This is so their human illusions mimic the concept of talking. But the wolves can speak without moving their mouths and usually do their wolf sound separate. It's not at all invasive and, in fact, strikes the listener as normal speech, only in their head.

For this reason, if your character would instinctively block telepathy, let me know. Toboe is still learning how to use his new skill and doesn't much understand it aside from directing it at people. The skill is largely instinctive for him.
goneastray: (*just me and you)
Memory 3: Finding Quent

Lol, I continue my tradition of improperly labeling. This is more sig neutral because of all the crap going on but whatev.

Memory goes here until end of scene.

What he learns?

- KIBA IS GONE! DDD:
- He's met humans like the ones in Aather before. And this man doesn't smell like Cheza either. Weird... He knows the man he finds in the snow.
- But... the others don't think it's safe for him to be around the man. :( They say the man will shoot him (whatever that means. it sounds bad though...) They don't like the man at all.
- The man belongs to someone named Blue. She's gone too. ;;
- It feels like Hige really cares about her and he's really upset that they couldn't protect her. :((
- He really wants to help the human anyway. It's really important!
- Tsume worries about him too sometimes. ;;b
- His name is Toboe.
- The man loves Blue a lot.
- Yay being hugged. ;;b Being able to warm this man makes him feel so happy and peaceful.

What this means to Aather?

Well, Toboe will be pretty sad that he doesn't know what happened to his friend. :( Or to Blue either. But he knows he and his friends will never stop searching until they find the both of them! But this is also his first memory of true human. It tells him that Cheza is the outlier and not the other humans at Aather at all. Cheza is something special.

And more importantly, it shows him how desperately he wants to help humans, to be close to them, to be around them. He also realizes this is different from the rest of his pack. They don't want anything to do with the man and even resent him as if he's dangerous... Since Toboe is already beginning to want to be close to the humans at Aather, this just assures him he's trusted them before so it's all right to not be so scared of them.

About his name, because he can't really share it, he's just fine with being Kitsunebi for now. It's an important name! And it was given to him by his friend who named him after his pack so that makes it even more special.
goneastray: (*and leave not a trace of the day)
Memory 2: BUGS

Memory starts at 5:27 until end of scene. Still wolves unless around other humans.

What he learns?

- Tsume and Kiba fight a lot. :(
- They're all very protective of Cheza, especially Kiba.
- He can protect too! He fought a whole pack of bugs with his friends! :|b He can be strong with his friends!
- Cheza saved their lives. :o
- She can talk to other plants and she heals in moonlight just like them. She's really special.

What this means to Aather?

This assures Toboe that he can do amazing things if he has others to help him. :o He's still a little scared, but this gives him a tiny bit more confidence to try. ;;b
goneastray: (*nowhere else on earth I'd rather be)
Memory 1: PETTINGS

Memory goes here until end of scene. As with before, unless wolves are with people, they're in wolf form.

What he learns?

- He's not used to hard traveling. The others have less problem with it. :(
- There's a person with them now, like the ones in Aather. Only... she doesn't smell like the people in Aather. She smells... like flowers. The most wonderful flower ever!
- When she touches him, it's like all the pain goes away. That never happened when people touched him here. It's the same for the tan wolf too. :o
- The flower-person's name is Cheza. It feels great just to be around her.
- The silver wolf is Tsume.

What this means to Aather?

Toboe's going to be a little confused why humans here smell different from the one in his memory. And he's going to be slightly disappointed the pettings are different. :(
goneastray: (*so wild and free)
Starter Memory: Hungry after leaving the city

Memory goes here until 3:32. Note, I assume if the wolves are alone with no humans around, they are in wolf form. The anime just liek its pretty boys.

What he learns
- He's part of a pack of four male wolves. He's the youngest.
- He's also got some weird silver loop things around the bottom of his right leg that jingle a little when he runs. But... he doesn't have them here. Huh.
- His pack has been traveling for days and a long ways since leaving something called a city.
- He's not used to being hungry for so long. :( This means they must've come from a place where food was easy to get.
- He gets along best with the much stockier tan wolf.
- The silver scarred wolf with them is super grumpy and makes dumb jokes about them eating each other. >\ But he knows that wolf is only saying things like that since he's hungry and surely he doesn't really mean those things. ;;
- The white wolf is a lot more calm and serious. He says he can travel an entire month by just basking in the moonlight! WOW! HE'S AMAZING! *_* He says they should be able to do it too. SO COOL!
- The white wolf's name is Kiba.
- The silver wolf doesn't like Kiba at all! Why does everybody have to fight? :( Fighting is so awful. :(((
- Kiba is the one leading them.

What it means to Aather?
I chose this memory because I want to start Toboe off with NO recollection of human interaction. He is the same as a wild wolf and believes he only interacts with other wolves. This does mean he will be missing his packmates terribly and possibly looking for them if nobody explains to him how Aather works. :(

This also means Toboe is not used to talking to humans and probably won't even try until he gets more comfortable around them. That said, because wolves in Wolf's Rain communicate with humans through some special telepathy as mentioned in his stats, Toboe won't be able to speak to people AT ALL until he regains this skill.

Other any special pings or anything that might be innate and needed to be mentioned?

**Wolf's Rain wolves communicate with humans through some special telepathy that registers in the minds of humans as if they were speaking without moving their lips. [In human form, this appears as normal speech.]**

Toboe is a wolf who uses an illusion to appear human. This illusion is NOT REAL and is broken by physical contact and sometimes Toboe's own will. It can also become shaky around those in a hazy state of mind.

Toboe also has exceptionally good hearing. As this is something innate to him, I'm not going to have it as skill to gain back. BECAUSE HE'S A FREAKIN' WOLF.

Other things to keep in mind about Toboe:
- He's colorblind.
- He doesn't automatically know words that would mainly be associated with humans. Like clothes, cabin, nod, headshake, things like that.
- He can't read.
- IF YOU HAVE PETS, YES THE WOLF IS LIKELY TO CHASE THEM. :x
- If I think of more, I'll add.
